Cello Electronics strives to be as friendly to the environment as possible. Because of this, it is a member of the WEEE Compliance Scheme.
With the current prominence of global warming and the constant rallying to try and improve the condition of the environment, it is incredibly important to Cello that it tries to improve the way it manufactures and recycles its products.
The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Compliance Scheme is an initiative that aims to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment being produced. In addition, the scheme also endeavours to encourage people to recycle their unwanted electrical waste.
The WEEE also intends to change the ways in which businesses manufacture, supply, recycle and recover electrical equipment in order to improve their environmental performance.
Cello’s Greener Future
Here at Cello we are delighted to announce a significant reduction in the use of plastic and cardboard materials in our packaging. In addition, we have specified a minimum amount of recycled content for our cardboard boxes.
At the beginning of 2021 we set up a task force to look at ways of improving our environmental impact. This has resulted in several key improvements to our packaging as follows:
- 13 tonnes of plastic removed from our packaging each year
- 8 tonnes of cardboard removed from our packaging each year
- Cardboard sourced from a minimum of 80% recycled material
- Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) paper used in all paperwork
Although we have greatly reduced the amount of plastic in our boxes, we do use some EPE foam to protect our products. Our EPE foam is recyclable, but there is currently no infrastructure for it in the UK.
How can you help
Please do what you can to responsibly dispose of or recycle your cardboard box and packaging. All of our cardboard boxes and paper are widely recycled in the UK. These can be disposed of through your usual recycling waste collection methods or at local recycling centres.
The clear plastic bags used in Cello packaging are recyclable, but not always through the kerbside plastic recycling methods. However, these can now be recycled in many UK supermarkets. Please find the full list here – https://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/plastic-film, or check with your local council’s recycling policy.
The future
Cello is committed to a zero waste, zero carbon future. With new packaging methods continually being explored, we are always looking at ways to improve our impact on the environment. This covers all aspects of our business, from product development to supplier sourcing and shipping to manufacturing.
